We are happy to report that the IRS has reinstated our parent organization’s tax-exempt status, retroactive to last year.
According to the IRS, “we determined you’re exempt from federal income tax under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) Section 501(c)(3). Donors can deduct contributions they make to you under IRC Section 170. You’re also qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under Section 2055, 2106, or 2522.”
GAATES Inc. received recognition of tax-exempt status by the IRS in September of 2014. Due to inactivity, GAATES Inc. failed to file Form 990 series tax forms for 3 consecutive years. As a result, in May, 2017, its exempt status was automatically revoked by the IRS.
This year, GAATES Inc. applied for reinstatement of its status and in late April, GAATES Inc. received a letter of reinstatement from the Internal Revenue Service, dated April 12, 2018, , restoring our 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. The letter states, in part:
“Based on the information you submitted in your application, we approved your request for reinstatement under Revenue Procedure 2014-11. Your effective date of exemption, as listed at the top of this letter, is retroactive to your date of revocation.”
