One less excuse for small business startups

Now there’s one less excuse to be successful after incarceration. The City of Elk Grove is offering free consulting to teach you how to start your own business. You can make excuses or you can make it happen.

Here’s the press release:

Last night, the Elk Grove City Council approved a partnership agreement with the Capital Region Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to establish a south Sacramento County small business consulting center at Elk Grove City Hall.  The Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce administers the Capital Region SBDC, which provides small business support and helps entrepreneurs start and grow their businesses through one-on-one business advising.  The Elk Grove center will provide small business consulting by appointment three days a week, starting the week of June 1.  Having the center at City Hall will expand on the City’s existing small business services by seamlessly integrating business planning and financing activities with the City’s economic development, entitlement, and permitting programs and services.

“This partnership will embed professional business advisors within City Hall, making it more convenient for entrepreneurs and small businesses to obtain advice about how to complete a business plan, access capital, and plan for expansion,” said Darrell Doan, Economic Development Director of the City of Elk Grove.  “This partnership is one more tool in our toolbox to assist small businesses to start and grow in our city.”

“Our knowledgeable consultants provide expertise on financial management, how and where to secure capital, and business development to benefit the local small business community,” said Scott Leslie, Director of the Capital Region SBDC. “Over the past three years, we have helped create and retain 1,000 jobs, assisted over 130 companies to open their doors, and infused over $35 million into Capital Region small businesses. We are excited to partner with the City of Elk Grove to keep this tremendous momentum going for small business owners and entrepreneurs by providing no-cost management consulting to increase the vitality of the economy in Elk Grove.”
